No one doubts that the aging population in Japan requires companies to increase the percentage of the foreign workforce.

Besides the difficulty to get qualified (foreign) employees in the market, another reason for the slow progress of inclusion is the uncomfortableness that comes with a changing work environment. More than 33% of the Japanese managers with foreign subordinates feel intense stress due to the challenges in dealing with non-Japanese.

This became very clear in research done by the Japanese HR consulting and recruiting company Persol did in surveying Japanese enterprises.
