Digital transformation:
More and more global communications will be done online. Those who do not have sufficient English communication skills will have more difficult time this year to get their job done.
Mental Health Issues:
While some people are settled in with the work-from-home style, others are still struggling to adjust. They have difficulty in having sense of belonging/being connected and adding value. Day by day they feel more anxious and lonely.
Some HR departments are shifting their focus from recruitment to employee care by regular check-ins.
Retention & Engagement:
As so many companies still have many vacancies, those people who feel disconnected and worried at their current companies will be easily tempted to accept an outside offer.
Cashflow is running out
Companies could survive last year, but this year their cash flow is much tighter. Even if they want to support their employees, they will be much more pressured to manage their cost. Companies will be forced to think of new creative ways to manage people cost.
Lack of sense of urgency:
Still many Japanese companies seem to lack sense of urgency, failing to realize that they can not survive unless they do totally different things.
More creative discussion forums are necessary in Japanese companies, where a diverse people within the company can creatively think and propose many things out of the box,
Last year, people were still hoping to go back to the good old normal days. But this year entering the 2nd year of Covid-19, we should all know that there will be no more going back to the old normal days.
